Setting the scene - Interactive session on management skills, with a focus on establishing and emphasising personal objectives. Part of this session would be to complete a personal development plan (PDP), which runs alongside any of the forthcoming sessions. This will focus on understanding personal management style and identifying any specific gaps in ability that need to be addressed. The plan will allow the opportunity to note any personal actions that need to be undertaken back in the workplace

Communications Skills -All sessions will include the chance to review and update the PDP. Then this particular day will address general communications skills. This will include establishing the value of communication, things that go wrong, how to improve and develop communication ability.

Staff Motivation - Review of any problems that may occur and consideration of the best ways to motivate staff to achieve business results. The session will review that sources of motivation and will include developing an understanding of the difference between performance and personality.

Problem Solving - Looking at techniques that enable more rapid and effective problem solving. This will include identifying any common problems that have a regular impact. The session will offer a range of tools that can be practised and then used in the workplace.

Time Management - The session will review the general issues that managers have with their own time management as well as that of staff. Consideration will be given to developing clear methods for managing own time and the time of others more effectively.

Performance Management - Review of the area of staff motivation and development of additional skills to effectively manage staff performance. This session will look at staff appraisals and consider what works and what doesn’t. Personal performance will be a significant aspect of the session

Project Management - A general overview of the need for effective project management at all levels of a business. Covering both formal and informal techniques the session will allow the individuals to consider their role as a project manager and how they can improve their overall approach.

Team Development - The session will look at the role of the manager in developing teams as well as individuals. Topics will include team dynamics, addressing conflict and understanding how to effectively put in place a plan to improve and develop a specific team.

Coaching - This session will be an in depth review of coaching practice. With the team having undertaken some initial training, this session will review outcomes and look at further tools that can be used. The context will be work placed coaching to get results.

Dealing with Difficult Conversations - Practical tools to deal with difficult conversations in the work place. This will range from the simply awkward to full blown disciplinary situations. We will touch on elements of best practice as well as employment law requirements that need to be borne in mind.
